On Tuesday, two Mercer County men were killed in a head-on collision on Route 29 in Ewing. According to media reports, the crash occurred when a driver traveling northbound in a Nissan struck the other driver who was crossing the northbound lanes from Lower River Road in a Ford, near the Lower Ferry Road intersection. The force of impact pushed both vehicles into the southbound lanes.
The Nissan driver was killed upon impact and the Ford driver was transported to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries the following day.
Head-on collisions are among the most dangerous types of traffic accidents. The combined force of two vehicles traveling in opposite directions typically causes catastrophic or fatal injuries. When a crash occurs near intersections or cross-traffic points, drivers may have little time to react before impact. Head-on collisions often result in additional impacts and injuries due to the violent forces involved and the potential for vehicles to be pushed into additional lanes of traffic.
