About Louis F. Locascio, J.S.C, Ret.

Of Counsel

Louis F. Locascio, J.S.C, Ret. is one of few Certified Civil and Criminal Trial Attorneys by the New Jersey Supreme Court. With over 50 years of experience as a litigator and judge, he is one of the most effective and successful mediators in civil and family cases. Before retiring from the bench in 2009, he was considered one of the most effective settlement judges in all three civil, criminal, and family divisions.

While serving in the Family Division, he often declined to enforce prenuptial agreements that were improperly drafted or presented to a prospective spouse too close to the wedding. Drawing on his experience reviewing countless prenups, he understands how to ensure these agreements are properly negotiated, carefully drafted, and enforceable in court. His philosophy is that “a well-crafted prenuptial agreement allows his client to enter marriage with confidence and peace of mind.”

While on the bench, he authored approximately 40 opinions, half of which were published. Since his retirement, he has written more than 150 articles for the New Jersey Law Journal, both as an Op-Ed contributor and through his ongoing monthly “Court Watch” column.

A graduate of Columbia University and Seton Hall Law School, Louis began his legal career as a law clerk to Harold Ackerman, J.S.C. He went on to try both civil and criminal cases at Wilentz, Goldman & Spitzer, P.A., and later at Drazin & Warshaw, P.A., where he was an active trial lawyer, handling more than 300 jury verdicts. He was appointed to the Monmouth County Superior Court in 1992. In his spare time, he enjoys fishing, dining out with his wife of over 50 years, and reading novels.
