On Sunday, three teenage boys were killed in a multi-vehicle collision on Route 55 in Glassboro, New Jersey. According to the police, one of the boys was driving a Honda when he struck the left rear corner of a Honda CRV traveling ahead of him. The contact caused him to lose control of his vehicle, cross over traffic, and crash into a disabled Dodge minivan parked on the highway’s right shoulder.

The impact caused the minivan to overturn with a woman and her three children inside. All were transported to an area hospital – the woman suffered serious injuries, and the children had minor injuries. Authorities said the teen driver and front passenger were killed on impact, and the backseat passenger survived the crash but later died of his injuries at a local hospital.

Two of the teens attended Delsea Regional High School. The Delsea Regional School District Superintendent issued a letter to the school community mourning their loss.

“Our school family is heartbroken, and our thoughts are with their families, friends, and all who knew and loved them,” she said.

An investigation into the crash is still ongoing.

Following too closely, known as “tailgating,” is a dangerous driving habit that significantly increases the risk of rear-end collisions, which are one of the most common types of accidents in New Jersey. In high-traffic situations, tailgating can quickly escalate into multi-car pileups, causing severe injuries and fatalities.
