Rutgers A-Team Shines at Mock Trial Invitational and Heads to Nationals

Rutgers University Mock Trial Association (RUMTA) continues to impress with strong showings at this season’s competitions. Earlier this year, the A-Team placed second at an invitational hosted by the University of Maryland. Read more about that event here.

Now, RUMTA is celebrating even greater success. The A-Team qualified for the 2025 American Mock Trial Association’s National Championship Tournament in Cleveland, Ohio—where they placed 6th in their division with a record of 10 wins and brought home two individual awards.

Rutgers’ A-Team and B-Team began the season competing at the Dickinson Regional in Pennsylvania, where they faced off against elite programs including Princeton, UPenn, Haverford, Dickinson, and Colgate. Rutgers A-Team finished with an impressive 7-1 record, tying for the best win-loss record of the weekend. The B-Team also performed exceptionally, earning a 5.5-2.5 record. Rutgers was the only school at the regional to have both teams earn bids to the next round—Open Round Championship Series (ORCS)—making it a standout performance.

Sophomore Olivia Karanxha earned the Top Attorney Award, and freshman Zach Epstein also received individual recognition as an attorney. These achievements highlight the bright future of RUMTA, which is led this season by junior Ayush Nimak.

RAM Law attorneys Craig Aronow and Rachel Holt have returned to coach the team after a hiatus. Craig previously coached RUMTA for nearly a decade beginning in 2007, and their leadership is once again helping drive success. RUMTA’s founder, assistant prosecutor Alyssa DiSturco, also continues to support the team as an assistant coach.

With the National Championship now behind them and trophies in hand, the future looks bright for Rutgers Mock Trial.
