On Monday, four people were injured in a rollover crash on Interstate 80 in Bergen County. New Jersey State Police said the crash occurred near Hackensack when the driver of an eastbound BMW SUV lost control. The vehicle struck the guardrail and flipped, crashing into a utility pole. No other vehicles were involved.
The driver and all three passengers suffered minor injuries and were transported to an area hospital. It was not immediately clear what led to the crash.
Rollover crashes can occur when a vehicle loses control and strikes a fixed object such as a guardrail or utility pole. SUVs and larger vehicles are more prone to rolling over due to their higher center of gravity, especially during sudden steering maneuvers or impacts. Even in single-vehicle accidents, rollovers can cause multiple injuries as occupants are jolted or thrown within the vehicle during the event.
