On Saturday, a Delaware man was seriously injured in a fiery crash on the New Jersey Turnpike. According to New Jersey State Police, the crash occurred near Robbinsville Township, when a northbound Freightliner tractor-trailer struck a disabled Chrysler van in the roadway.
Both vehicles ignited on impact and quickly became fully engulfed fires, creating a dangerous situation for responders and other motorists, authorities said. The van driver suffered serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital. No other injuries were reported.
Emergency crews worked to extinguish the fire and clear the roadway, and the crash remains under investigation.
Crashes involving disabled vehicles in active lanes can be particularly dangerous, especially on high-speed roads like the New Jersey Turnpike. Approaching drivers may have little time to react, and collisions with large commercial trucks often result in severe impacts.
When vehicles ignite after a crash, the risk to occupants and emergency responders increases significantly, often requiring extended response efforts to control the scene and prevent further harm.
