A New Year’s Day crash on the Garden State Parkway claimed the life of a 31-year-old Barnegat woman. According to the New Jersey State Police, she was heading north around 3:30 a.m. when her Chevrolet SUV struck a divider between the local and express lanes in Woodbridge.
The driver was thrown from the vehicle and died, and the SUV became engulfed in flames, police said. The crash remains under investigation, and no additional information has been released.
Highway crashes during overnight and early-morning hours are often especially dangerous due to reduced visibility, higher travel speeds, and fewer vehicles on the road to signal hazards ahead. When a vehicle strikes a barrier at highway speeds, occupants face an increased risk of ejection, particularly if seat belts are not worn or if the impact is severe.
