Rutgers A-Team Places Second in Mock Trial Invitational

The Rutgers University Mock Trial Association (RUMTA) A-Team placed second in the 29th Annual Yale Invitational in New Haven, Connecticut, ending the season with a 6-2 final score. Coached by Partner Craig M. Aronow, Esq. and Rachel E. Holt, Esq., the A-Team competed against teams from the University of Pennsylvania, Columbia University, Princeton University, and Michigan State University. Team member Jonathan Shanahan captured an individual award as the defense closer with 18 ranks as an attorney.

The RUMTA is the premier undergraduate trial advocacy club. Students are given a fictional case to prepare arguments and compete with teams across the country in mock trials. During the season, 700 teams from over 400 universities compete in local and regional competitions, with winners advancing to the American Mock Trial Association National Championship. Rutgers has competed at the AMTA National Championship Tournament five times, placing second in 2012.

Head Coach Craig, Rachel, and other alumni attorneys participated in mock trial competitions as undergraduates and now enjoy helping shape the next generation of lawyers.

We know that these early successes are a sign of very good things to come in the spring semester’s national intercollegiate competition.”
