RAM Law Partner Matthew Bonanno Obtains $500,000 Settlement for Client Struck by Automatic Sliding Door

Matt’s 79-year-old RAM client was leaving work at a local supermarket late at night. As she exited, she looked out a window. The automatic sliding exit door for the supermarket opened across that window, striking the client and causing her to fall and break her hip. She was taken to the local emergency room where she underwent a hip replacement. After that she underwent post-operative physical therapy. Matt was able to show that the window was missing the necessary warning labels that are meant to protect against this exact risk. He also showed that the door’s sensor lacked sidelight coverage, which is available in many other door sensor models, which would have been a safer alternative. The settlement was paid by both the supermarket and the company responsible for maintaining the automatic door two weeks before trial was scheduled to begin.
