Nine Killed in Deadly Statewide Fourth of July Weekend Crashes

Nine people across New Jersey died in motor vehicle accidents over the Fourth of July weekend, according to the New Jersey State Police. So far in 2025, there have been 259 reported fatal crashes in the state, resulting in 276 fatalities. Ocean County has reported 30 fatalities this year, while Middlesex County has reported 28.

The State Police provided details about the fatal crashes during the holiday weekend:

Friday, July 4:

  • An elderly man from Woodbine was killed in a head-on collision after crossing into oncoming traffic and striking a Ram pickup truck in Cumberland County.
  • In Keyport, a driver died in a crash on Route 35 just after 8:00 p.m. No further details have been released.

Saturday, July 5:
Two fatal crashes involving passengers were reported:

  • A man from Bridgeton died when the Infiniti he was riding in struck a concrete barrier and toll reader support structure on the Atlantic City Expressway in Pleasantville.
  • A woman from Hamilton was killed after being ejected from a pickup truck during a crash on South Broad Street near the Trenton-Hamilton border. Two others were seriously injured.

Sunday, July 6:
Sunday was the deadliest day, with five fatal crashes, including two each in Middlesex County and Monmouth County:

  • A moped rider in Woodbridge died after fleeing police in Perth Amboy. The New Jersey Attorney General’s office is investigating the incident.
  • A woman from Brooklyn was killed when her Nissan was rear-ended by a Tesla on the Garden State Parkway in Sayreville.
  • An elderly man in Buena Vista Township, Atlantic County, was killed when a driver ran a stop sign and struck his Honda Civic.
  • State Police reported a fatal crash on Carr Avenue in Keansburg, though further details have not been released.
  • A driver in a Volkswagen Jetta died in a single-vehicle crash in Tinton Falls. The driver appeared to have veered off Shafto Road, north of West Park Avenue, and struck multiple trees. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Tinton Falls Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit.
