The $25 million verdict, which ranked fourth, stems from a child sex abuse case Mr. Bonanno co-chaired with Vincent Nappo, Esq. of Pfau Cochran Vertetis Amala PLLC. 

Mr. Bonanno is a certified Civil Trial Attorney by the New Jersey Supreme Court, who handles complex personal injury cases. He is a dedicated attorney and fierce victims’ advocate, also responsible for recovering the 18th highest settlement and 43rd highest verdict in New Jersey in 2019.

The March 2024 trial was the first brought against the New Jersey Division of Youth and Family Services (DYFS) under the Child Victims Act. Mr. Bonanno represented a client placed in the state foster system at age five due to extensive parental drug abuse and neglect. While in the state’s custody, the client faced heinous sexual abuse in three different foster homes by four separate perpetrators, two of whom were later convicted, between 1990 and 1993.

A Middlesex County jury unanimously found DYFS responsible for numerous failures to supervise and protect the client, leading to further vicious sexual abuse and revictimization.
