A fiery vehicle crash in Raritan Township Saturday injured four people, including one who was flown to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. Raritan Township Police said the crash occurred near midnight at the intersection of Route 31 and Walter Foran Boulevard.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers encountered a white Subaru on fire and with heavy front-end damage. The fire appeared to be confined to the engine compartment and was extinguished by an officer with a fire extinguisher from his patrol vehicle.
The Subaru driver suffered traumatic head injuries in the crash and was found trapped inside his vehicle, authorities said. Raritan Township rescue squads and fire department personnel were able to extract the driver, who was then flown to the hospital for his injuries. Three occupants of a Toyota Tundra pickup involved in the crash suffered minor injuries but were transported to Capital Health in Trenton and Hunterdon Medical Center, according to police.
Witnesses report that the Subaru was traveling east on Walter Foran Boulevard when it crossed over Route 31, crashing into the driver’s side of the northbound Toyota Tundra. The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Raritan Township Police Department.
