RAM Law’s client, a Peruvian immigrant, recently won a civil-rights jury lawsuit which was filed in the Superior Court of Essex County with the representation of his lawyer, Ed Rebenack from RAM Law for being imprisoned wrongfully for 10 months. He was awarded $300,000 for wrongful imprisonment which was one of the largest settlements for allegations of police misconduct in Newark recently.
The RAM Law client was presented a confession in English by a Newark police officer that he could not read. At least three other police officers reviewed the confession and signed off on the paperwork. If a thorough and proper check would have been performed, it would have been discovered that the gentlemen was in jail for overdue fines and physically could not have committed the crime he was arrested for and charged with. He was imprisoned for 10 months before the charges were ultimately dismissed.
